The rains that we have been waiting for is finally here. In some weeks heavy rains has been experienced in Kenya and many of us think that this is the Elnino that people have been predicting day in day out.
The weather forecasters had given a warning that heavy and destructive rain (Elnino) is going to be experienced this rainy season. Some took the caution and made some protective plans while took it as a joke and did nothing.
The government also reserved some money to cater for emergencies and prepare for heavy rains. The money was meant for repairing the drainage systems, relocating those on dangerous areas to other
places, providing safety measures for those affected by rains and many more purposes.
This has not been the Case since the rain started. We have experienced poor drainage systems in many areas in the country. Many Kenyans have been left homeless due to their houses being destroyed by rains, others have also lost their loved ones. During examinations some students were unable to do their examinations on time due to the bridges being carried away by water.

This has left many Kenyans wondering how the funds reserved to cater for heavy rains was used. Many leaders used the money in other ways while others did drainage which were poorly constructed but too expensive. Now many roads are inaccessible due overflow of water, many rivers have broken their shores and become disastrous to the residents. Almost 10 people have list their lives and if caution is not taken many more are going to lose lives.
The heavy rains are expected to continue raining through out the month of December. We urge every Kenyan to be more careful. Avoid living near rivers valley and any other dangerous place.
